Brazil is experiencing a new travel disruption today as LATAM, GOL and Azul have all been rocked by cancellations and delays, with the ongoing operational challenges compounded by poor weather and airport systems (at São Paulo & Porto Alegre) struggling to cope. The total number of canceled flights in the two main airports was 26 (15 LATAM, seven GOL, four Azul), but more than 110 flights were delayed, delaying the plans of thousands of passengers. At São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, 66 delays and 12 cancellations were registered, especially with LATAM and GOL, and Salgado Filho in Porto Alegre recorded 48 delays and 14 cancellations, even with a 41% delay rate for Azul. GOL Linhas Aéreas Hit With Ground Delays and Cancellations

GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes was also deeply affected, with 7 total cancellations2 at Guarulhos and 5 at Salgado Filho. On the delay front, GOL reported 13 delayed flights at each airport, with delays impacting 30% of its operations at Salgado Filho. The airline’s performance struggles continue to mount as it battles congested airport schedules and seasonal demand pressures.

Azul Struggles Most With Delays at Salgado Filho

While Azul Brazilian Airlines avoided cancellations at Guarulhos, the carrier still logged 4 cancellations at Salgado Filho, along with 12 delayed flights at Guarulhos and a staggering 28 delays at Salgado Filho. The latter figure means 41% of Azul’s operations at POA were affected by delays, pointing to serious ground operation bottlenecks.

Azul’s on-time performance at Salgado Filho was notably the weakest among the three, underscoring infrastructure strain in Porto Alegre and growing pressure on the airline’s regional networks.

International Carriers Largely Unaffected

Unlike their Brazilian counterparts, international airlines including Air France, Emirates, Lufthansa, TAP Air Portugal, and Iberia reported no cancellations and only minor delays—most limited to one or two flights each. For example, Air France had 2 delayed flights, Emirates had 1, and Lufthansa, ITA Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Iberia all recorded isolated delays with no disruptions to their outbound schedules.

Today’s widespread disruption paints a stark picture for travelers relying on Brazil’s top airlines. As LATAM, GOL, and Azul faced simultaneous setbacks, passenger confidence wavered amid chaotic rebookings, missed connections, and ground crew bottlenecks.

With winter tourism ramping up and demand for flights increasing, airlines are now under heightened scrutiny to improve reliability and adapt quickly to operational shocks. Delays and cancellations have ripple effects across the entire network, and today’s performance may serve as a warning sign of potential instability during the upcoming holiday peak.
