Jet2 has launched an exciting new route from Newcastle to Chambéry, France, marking the first-ever direct flight between the two destinations. This move is part of the airline’s ambitious winter expansion for 2025 to 2026, which is already shaping up to be a season full of new travel opportunities.
As part of its major winter program, Jet2 is introducing three new routes, including the highly anticipated Newcastle to Chambéry connection, ideal for those seeking a festive European getaway. Additionally, the airline will offer two new seasonal services from Bristol to Christmas market hotspots—Gdańsk and Berlin—beginning in November.
Chambéry, nestled in the southeastern part of France, may not be the most famous city in the Alps, but it’s quickly becoming a destination worth considering. While the town remains somewhat under the radar for many Alpine tourists, its proximity to world-class ski resorts makes it a great base for winter sports enthusiasts.
Described by Lonely Planet as “often overlooked by visitors to the French Alps,” Chambéry is nevertheless brimming with history and charm. The city, known as France’s “Italian town,” was once under Italian rule from the 13th to the 16th centuries, leaving behind an enduring Italian influence. This can be seen in the colorful buildings, expansive squares, and a culinary scene that celebrates vermouth, pasta, and polenta—perfect for food lovers.
With its Italian flair, Chambéry has earned a reputation for a relaxed, almost Mediterranean vibe. Conde Nast Traveller even calls it a place with an “easygoing, aperitivo-o’clock atmosphere,” making it an ideal spot for unwinding and enjoying the local culture.
A standout feature of Chambéry is its network of ‘traboules,’ or hidden passageways, that wind through the historic Old Town, giving the city a mysterious, old-world charm. Visitors can also explore the famous Fontaine Des Éléphants, a striking fountain with four life-sized elephant statues, built to honor a military general. For those who want to explore the city in a fun and quirky way, the Elephant Trail takes tourists to major attractions, each one marked by a small elephant sculpture.
Jet2 flights from Newcastle to Chambéry are now available for booking, with the inaugural flight taking off on December 20, 2025. The airline will operate one flight per week, departing every Saturday at 2:40 pm, with fares starting from as low as £69.
Along with this new route, Jet2 is adding 96,000 additional seats for flights from November 2025 to March 2026. The airline is also expanding its winter sun program, including popular European destinations like the Algarve, the Canary Islands, Cyprus, and Malta.
