Apple and Nvidia May Join Microsoft in Funding OpenAI
OpenAI is reportedly preparing for a significant new round of funding, and tech giants Apple and Nvidia could be among the key investors. According to recent reports, Apple is in discussions to invest, particularly as it plans to integrate ChatGPT into its iOS platform. Bloomberg further revealed that Nvidia is also considering participating in this funding round. The round, which is reportedly being led by Thrive Capital, could value OpenAI at over $100 billion.
The potential involvement of Apple and Nvidia in OpenAI's funding round isn't entirely unexpected. Apple is expected to integrate ChatGPT with Siri later this year, indicating a deepening relationship between the two companies. Additionally, Apple had previously considered appointing Phil Schiller, its former head of marketing, to OpenAI's board, though those plans were apparently shelved.
Nvidia, on the other hand, plays a crucial role in powering OpenAI's AI services, supplying the advanced chips that OpenAI relies on. As a key supplier, Nvidia's potential investment would further strengthen its partnership with the AI research firm.
Microsoft, which has already established a significant relationship with OpenAI through a $1 billion investment in 2019 and a multibillion-dollar commitment in 2023, is also reportedly in talks to join this new funding round.
Neither Apple nor OpenAI has responded to requests for comment, while Nvidia and Microsoft have declined to comment on the matter. The funding round, if successful, could further accelerate OpenAI's growth and its impact on the AI landscape.
